COVID-19: Moderna seeks Canada, EU approval for vaccine's use in teens

"The vaccine efficacy in the almost 2,500 adolescents who received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine was observed to be 100% when using the same case definition as in the Phase 3 COVE study in adults", the biotechnology company added. Another 12% of people said they plan to be vaccinated.

Roughly half, or 51 per cent, of unvaccinated adults said they were "not likely at all" to change their mind about receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

President Biden's goal to have 70% of eligible Americans vaccinated against COVID-19 by July 4 may be derailed by the almost one-quarter of people who are still hesitant about getting vaccinated, according to a recent Gallup survey. But current vaccination rates have revealed it was unlikely the goal would be reached. About 16 million people would need to receive at least one dose in the next four weeks to reach the goal.

This was the lowest week-to-week increase of new vaccinations among American adults since mid-February, CNN reports.

It says no cases of COVID-19 were reported during the study in participants who received two doses of the vaccine.

Moderna Inc has filed a request with the European Medicines Agency for its Covid-19 vaccine to be granted authorization for use in adolescents. More than a dozen states have already hit 70 percent of vaccinated adults, and about 12 others will probably get there by Independence Day. The CDC also announced changes to its masking and social distancing policies that allowed for vaccinated Americans to resume most activities. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
