The Ontario Provincial Police said on Sunday at around 3:34 p.m., a kayaker came across a small vessel on a sandbar in Lake St. Clair near Lakeshore Park Road.

The body of an 8-year-old boy who had gone missing Saturday afternoon in Turkey Point, Ont., was found after nearly a full day of searching the waters of Lake Erie, according to provincial police.

"I will not be answering any further questions today to give time for the family to grieve", Sanchuk said.

He thanked all the emergency crews and residents who assisted in the search.

The Essex County OPP Marine Unit, Chatham-Kent OPP Marine Unit, and the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre are now searching the area. Norfolk paramedics also responded to the scene.

The 8 year old boy went missing around 5:30 pm on Saturday.

A search commenced and resumed Sunday with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. Officers received information that the female had fallen off a floating device while in the water and did not make it back to shore.

Family members contacted police when they were unable to find their son, police said.

A Brantford man who saw the search efforts called it a massive operation.

"It has been pretty incredible". "Everyone down here loves the water and loves being on it but when something like this happens it reminds you of the dangers".
