India reports 1,14460 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 2 months

The death toll due to the virus climbed to 3,44,082 with 3,380 fatalities being recorded in a span of 24 hours.

Continuing with the downward trend, India during the last 24 hours, recorded 1.20 lakh COVID-19 cases, which is the lowest one-day spike the country has recorded in the last almost two months. So far, more than 2.69 crore persons have recovered from the COVID-19 infection.

In a sign of improvement in the Covid-19 situation, India has been reporting below 2 lakh Coronavirus cases for the past few weeks.

There are 115 new cases in Toronto, 112 in Peel, 59 in Niagara, 47 in York Region, 40 in Ottawa, 33 in Hamilton, and 31 in Halton.

The daily positivity rate further dipped to 5.78 per cent, less than 10 per cent for the 12th consecutive day, the ministry said, adding that the weekly positivity rate has declined to 6.89 per cent.

As many as 364,746,522 samples have been tested in the country up to June 5 including 2,036,311 samples tested on Saturday, the Indian Council of Medical Research informed.

The weekly positivity rate is now at 6.54% and the daily positivity rate stands at 5.62%.

According to the Health Ministry, a total of 1,89,232 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,69,84,781 till date. India registered record fatalities due to Covid-19 on May 21 with 4,529 deaths - the highest from Covid infection in any country in a day since the coronavirus outbreak was reported in China's Wuhan in December 2019. Of these 20,84,421 samples were tested on Friday.
