The vaccines, authorized by the Food and Drug Administration, have proven to be highly effectivein preventing COVID-19 cases and deaths with a 90% drop in infection risk, though some breakthrough cases have occurred in a fraction of vaccinated people, according to new data from the CDC.

The remarks came in response to a question from Fox News' Peter Doocy, who asked about a newly disclosed intelligence report that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology were hospitalized in November 2019 with symptoms consistent with Covid-19. The country's government did not inform the World Health Organization of the cases.

Psaki said she did not have any information on Biden's "private exercise regime", but she admitted that she occasionally struggles to keep up with the 78-year-old president while they are out and about.

Psaki said the Biden administration was "hopeful" that the World Health Organization could conduct a "transparent independent phase two investigation".

President Joe Biden has set a target of having 70 percent of adults vaccinated with at least one dose by July 4.

"I think you're misunderstanding how this process actually works", Psaki said.

Following the president's famous plane stairs stumble the White House communications director Kate Bedingfield reassured at the time that Biden was "just fine and did not even require any attention from the medical team who travels with him", as it was "nothing more than a misstep on the stairs". "This needs to be an American-led effort to get to the bottom of what happened".

"We need access to the underlying data and information in order to have that investigation", she said. "We don't have enough information and data to draw a conclusion at this point in time".
