"We have spoken to Pfizer and Moderna for vaccines, and both the manufacturers have refused to sell directly to us".

In the statement, Punjab official Vikas Garg said that the state government had also made approaches regarding the Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Sputnik vaccines but has yet to receive any response. Vax is the key, but govt doesn't care: Rahul GandhiAmid shortage of vaccines, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the government saying it is not "serious" about it. Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Monday, "Vaccination is the key to controlling the pandemic but GOI doesn't seem to care". The Centre talked to Moderna, and Pfizer, and completed negotiations within 2-3 days. Why is it not being done urgently? The vaccination campaign now relies on Covishield from the Serum Institute of India and Covaxin from Bharat Biotech. Out of them, Bharat Biotech has struck a deal with only two companies. So far, more than 286 million vaccine doses have been administered in the USA, and more than 61% of adults have received at least one shot. There are less than 18,000 cases in the USA. Preliminary findings showed the vaccine triggered the same signs of immune protection in kids as it does in adults, and the same kind of temporary side effects such as sore arms, headache and fatigue. "Covaxin [stock in Delhi] is over but Covishield is left for a few days".

Earlier during the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that Pfizer and Moderna had declined to sell their coronavirus vaccines to the city government as they wanted to directly deal with the Centre. When Delhi government raised the demand for vaccines, the Centre provided only 4 lakh doses and asked us to float a global tender. States would need to make their supply chain management robust to offer the shots just in time, Agarwal said. "The Centre is fully responsible for this dearth of vaccines being faced by the nation now". It has failed to manage the situation. "Allocation of doses and implementation plan within a country is a decision for local governments based on relevant health authority guidelines", the company said.

The deputy chief minister urged the Centre to approve Pfizer and Moderna on war footing. Moderna had refused Punjab, stating that its policy permits it to deal only with the Government of India.

Since the COVID-19 vaccine rollouts started late past year, the shots have brought in billions for the leading companies. Britain gave approval to US-made Pfizer in December. We were sleeping back then and are still sleeping.

With plenty of vaccine supply in the U.S., younger teens flocked to get Pfizer's shot in the days after FDA opened it to them, part of a push to get as many kids vaccinated as possible before the next school year. "Apart from India, Moderna has been distributed in 46 nations and Johnson & Johnson in 41 countries".

Sisodia said some countries bought vaccines in advance while these were in trial stage but India did not take any step in that direction. "By November, 2020, almost seven months ago, the U.S. and the European Union had procured 700 million vaccine doses. Britain started its vaccination programme in January this year, and in that month itself, it had enough vaccines to cover 75% of its population", he said.

"In November 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the vaccine manufacturing plant of Serum Institute of India".

Side effects were mild or moderate with the most common being pain at the site of injection, similar to adults in the clinical trial previous year.
