The controversial Greene has been needling Ocasio-Cortez since arriving in Washington, but Ocasio-Cortez has refused to engage with her.

Greene tried to catch up to the NY representative, asking why she supports antifa and Black Lives Matter, describing them as "terrorist" groups.

Ms Greene, who has already been stripped of her House committee assignments, then accused Ms Ocasio-Cortez of backing out of their planned New Green Deal debate and failing to defend her "radical socialist" views.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during a press conference on Thursday that the incident was a cause for "trauma and fear among members, especially on the heels of an insurrection".

In a Facebook video posted Wednesday, the congresswoman made similar accusations, describing Ocasio-Cortez and her congressional allies as "The Jihad Squad" - a play on the group's "Squad" nickname.

While the 46-year-old hasn't responded to Hogg's comments, she's still releasing statements on Twitter to share her opinion about AOC and the security concerns she's raised since the encounter.

"She's a chicken. She doesn't want to debate".

"You don't care about the American people", Greene shouted.

Greene has had a swift rise off the back of her Trumpian positions, as Insider's Dave Levinthal reported.

"I refuse to allow young women, people of colour, people who are standing up for what they believe, to see this kind of intimidation attempts by a person who supports white supremacists in our nation's capital", she added, referring to the pro-Trump mob that stormed the US Capitol in January.

Later, an AOC spokesperson said Greene "tried to begin an argument" with AOC, and when the latter "tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer".

"This is beneath the dignity of a person serving in the Congress of the United States", Pelosi remarked, further stating that it "probably is a matter for the Ethics Committee".

Ocasio-Cortez's spokeswoman, Lauren Hitt, went on to call on officials in Congress to ensure a "safe, civil" environment for members, noting that another member had moved offices because of Greene. A neighboring congresswoman, Marjorie Newman, put an LGBTQ flag on her office door, which led to MTG putting a sign up directly across the hallway: "There are TWO genders".
