Tiger seen roaming through Texas neighborhood

The deputy can be seen shouting at the tiger's owner to get the cat back inside. Especially since it ended without the tiger being shot or, you know, mauling anybody on a manicured lawn and feasting on their flesh.

Authorities on Monday were searching for a Texas man whose tiger was found wandering around a residential area in the U.S. city of Houston and who was out on bond on a murder charge. Ron Borza said during a news conference Monday. He is free on $250,000 bail.

"My main concern right now is focusing on finding him and finding the tiger because what I don't want him to do is harm that tiger".

KHOU-TV and KTRK-TV report that the Houston Police Department was called to the city's Memorial neighborhood just before 8 p.m. local time, but the tiger was gone by the time they arrived.

Borza said residents should not have exotic animals as pets because they can be unpredictable. (Bizarrely, a report on Monday afternoon indicated that the man who coaxed the tiger out of the street was out on bond after a November murder arrest, which does take some of the fun out of things.) Curiously, while there are not a great many tiger maulings occurring in Texas, encountering one in a suburban habitat is not as uncommon as you might think.

"[The deputy] somehow gets notified or gets wind of what's going on and he ends up going to the scene and he's trying to maintain safety out there and keep everybody back and make sure everything's OK", Senties said.

Several videos began circulating online from witnesses in a West Houston neighborhood, showing what one onlooker observed was an adult "freakin' Bengal tiger" crouched in a yard, wearing a collar. "Our responding units see the vehicle fleeing and they try to initiate a vehicle pursuit but they lose sight of the vehicle".

Victor Hugo Cuevas, 26, was charged with felony evading arrest, and Monday night police said he was in custody.

ABC News reported today that the police believe Cuevas owns the tiger but his attorney questioned the accuracy of that belief. Authorities are also seeking two monkeys Cuevas is believed to own. He said the whereabouts of the monkeys are unclear. Police are investigating the incident.

Borza asked the public to be on the lookout.

"We have plenty of neighbours out here with guns, and we don't want to see that".

After the tiger was spotted in the neighborhood Sunday, an off-duty sheriff's deputy confronted the owner who took the animal and led back it inside the house, Borza said.

In 2019, some people who went into an abandoned Houston home to smoke marijuana found a caged tiger.

Estimates on how many tigers live in Texas range from 2,000 to 5,000.
