Regardless of Facebook's decision on Wednesday a Twitter spokesperson said that Mr Trump is permanently suspended from tweeting.

For a brief moment on Tuesday afternoon, it appeared that Donald Trump had made good on the long-swirling rumors that he was planning to start a new social media platform.

"In a time of silence and lies / A beacon of freedom arises / A place to speak freely and safely / Straight from the desk of Donald J. Trump".

Tuesday's reveal is a significant step in the story of Trump's social media situation.

The web space will reportedly provide the ex-president the opportunity to post messages, images and videos online.

"We'll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future", he tweeted.

Barred from social media, Trump has embraced other platforms for getting his message out. It now features dozens of short posts Trump made since late March, some of which dispute the 2020 election results.

If the idea of a Supreme Court for a social network leaves you with a lot of questions, well, you're not the only one. It ordered Facebook to restore posts by users that the company said broke standards on adult nudity, hate speech, or risky individuals.

The board is an independent, court-like entity for appealing content decisions on Facebook-owned platforms. "Whatever the judgement tomorrow, this whole fiasco shows why we need democratic regulation of Big Tech".

The US leader was banned permanently by Facebook the following day, and he was taken off other platforms including Twitter and YouTube.
