According to a report by CCTV, the incident took place in the private Jianle kindergarten.

A man wielding a knife wounded 18 people including 16 children at a kindergarten in China's southwestern region of Guangxi on Wednesday, state-backed media said.

The man, now unidentified, went on a stabbing rampage at the kindergarten in the Chinese city of Beiliu, injuring at least 16 children and two adults, CGTN reports.

Xinhua reported that two children subsequently died of their injuries. Two of the injured children are thought to be seriously injured. Videos also showed a man, presumably Zeng, being forcibly detained by police.

There have been a spate of knife attacks at schools or on school students in China over recent years.

Those found to have carried out the attacks have usually been people living with mental illness, or seeking revenge against officials or individuals known to them. And in December, on the other end of the country in Kaiyuan, Liaoning Province, an attacker randomly targeted pedestrians outside of a school, killing seven and injuring seven more.
