Hours after the Columbus Police Department shot a 15-year-old girl that stirred tensions and mass protests, the department released a video of the shooting along with preliminary details of the incident.

A video circulated on social media which appeared to show a victim wearing jeans and trainers lying motionless on the ground as a police officer stood nearby.

"But another young girl will still not be coming home tonight, he said, adding, "I ask everyone to pray for peace".

"We're not going to sit here and just sit around while you kill us, then go back in the suburbs", one protester said. "This stuff just never ends".

"We will share information that we can as soon as it becomes available", he continued. Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now reviewing the killing following an agreement with the city last summer for all police shootings to be handled by the independent investigators under Attorney General Dave Yost's office. He said police believe she is attempting to stab both girls during the fight. "Tonight, we pray for this family, we pray for this city, and we pray for our neighbours".

Police and Ginther reported Ma'Khia's age as 15, although her mother said she is 16.

In its original report, The Daily Beast quoted Bryant's aunt, Hazel Bryant, as its primary source.

Woods said at the news conference late on Tuesday that full body-camera footage of the incident was not shown because of a public records process that requires officials to blur the faces of juveniles on video. He also noted that per the department's policy, officers can use deadly force to protect themselves or a third party. The chief said he "would be taken off the street" pending an investigation.

The shooting in a neighbourhood on the city's south-east side happened to coincide with announcement of the guilty verdict by a Minneapolis jury against a former police officer charged with murdering George Floyd by kneeling on his neck during an arrest a year ago. What's more, the incident took place just minutes before the Derek Chauvin verdict was read, the outlet said. "It's not okay", he said, "and it can't continue on".

Police received a 911 call at 4:35 p.m. about an attempted stabbing on the 3100 block of Legion Lane, which is located north of Chatterton Road.

The Columbus Dispatch reported a crowd of protesters had gathered near a home on the city's southeast side where the shooting occurred, just minutes before the guilty verdict was announced against the police officer charged with murdering George Floyd a year ago.

She appears unresponsive and blood is pooled on the ground beneath her. When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered a scuffle between several girls. Four gunshots are then heard.

Her aunt told reporters it was Ma'Khia who called the police for help, but upon their arrival, they took her life.

In a video circulating on Twitter that afternoon, three white officers allegedly taunted residents by saying "Blue Lives Matter". "When police are killed, the person is brought in and justice is served", Graham said.

"The neighbourhood has definitely went through its changes, but nothing like this", Shepherd said of the shooting. "Because as you're getting one phone call that he was guilty, I'm getting the next phone call that this is happening in my neighborhood".

Elsewhere, police in OH were called to a disturbance yesterday after a female contacted emergency services and told them another female was trying to stab her.
