Three dead in 'active attack' shooting incident in northwest Austin, medics say

Emergency responders say several people have been fatally shot in Austin and that no suspect is in custody.

At least three people are dead after an attack near downtown Austin on Sunday afternoon, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that local police are "increasingly confident they do know the identity of the suspect", but the person has not been identified and remains at large.

Around 2:30 p.m., the police said the suspect was still at large and asked residents to shelter in place.

ATCEMS tweeted that medics, Austin Fire Department and Austin Police Department crews were responding to a declared active attack/shooter incident in the 9600 block of Great Hills Trail. There were also several ambulances and two SWAT trucks at the scene, as well as two police helicopters and a drone overhead.

"The cops had their guns out", he said. "There were all of a sudden ambulances, sirens and police cars There were cops coming from everywhere".
