Alberta Health has refused to confirm the specifics of the outbreak but Postmedia obtained a letter sent by Alberta Health Services on Saturday confirming the outbreak occurred at PTW Energy Services.

There are now 328 people in the hospital, with 76 of them in intensive care, which Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw described as a sharp increase.

"So far, only three are confirmed P.1 cases, but this will likely increase as more results come in".

Five cases are now linked to that outbreak, including one confirmed case of the P.1 variant.

Sturgeon County reported three new cases and four recoveries, with active cases dropping to 39 Tuesday from 40 Monday.

Kenney notes if the current trend continues, there will be 2,000 new daily COVID cases by the end of the month and up to 1,000 people in the hospital.

Alberta health officials identified 887 new cases of COVID-19, 432 of them involving variants.

More than 9,102 tests were completed Sunday.

The province has 10,809 active cases of COVID-19.

The city now has 113 active COVID-19 cases.

She thanked the public for their patience.

"These investigations are complex and it's important that we ensure information is accurate and that anyone at risk is directly contacted before sharing details", she said.
