Felty said the brothers initially agreed they were going to commit suicide, developed a plan and then chose to wait a year to see if they could fix their situation, but later made a decision to just wait a month before carrying out the grisly plan.

Allen police said that they were called for a welfare check on a family by a friend who saw the alarming message on social media.

The only other family mass killing recorded in the database that involved siblings was a 2015 slaying in Oklahoma. "Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members and friends and we're just very sorry that this event occurred".

The startling incident unfolded in Allen, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas. Towhidul, the father, worked in information technology while his wife Iren took care of the house and their children.

The grandmother, 77-year-old Altafun Nessa, was visiting from Bangladesh.

Farhan's twin sister, Farbin Towhid, had a full scholarship to NYU, FOX 4 reported.

Posting a Google Doc link to Instagram, Farhan Towhid, 19, left a chilling note behind explaining his actions and detailing his struggle with serious depression. "I genuinely do. And that's exactly why I chose to kill them".

He moved home, where Tanvir, whom he described as "depressed and socially anxious", was staying.

Police suspect two brothers gunned down the other family members before killing themselves.

"If I killed just myself, they would be miserable", Farhan wrote.

In it he called gun control measures in the United States "a joke" and detailed how easy it was for his brother to purchase the guns, noting that he simply lied about suffering from a mental illness. It was not immediately clear what guns were used.

Officers arrived at the family's Allen residence at around 1 a.m. after a family friend reported that someone at the home was suicidal. When officers arrived, they found the family, from Bangladesh, dead inside the home with gunshot wounds.

"I've been here 21 years in Allen". So, as you can imagine, it's just a tragedy. Felty said the those dead ranged in age from 19 to mid-70s.

Felty said the letter written by Farhan centered around four basic points.

The brother who wrote the social media post says in it that he has been cutting himself more frequently recently and that as of late his treatment for depression - which included counseling and medication - didn't seem to help him as much as it had previously, Felty said.

"Today we received extremely sad news about the deaths of two former students", the university said in a statement shared with KTVT. "We express our deepest sympathies to their extended family and friends".

Six people were found dead in a suburban Texas home early Monday after police say two brothers apparently killed four family members and then themselves in a suicide pact.

"I've never seen a crime like this", Chowdhury said. "It's pretty heartbreaking for the community".
