Manitoba announces two phased loosening of COVID 19 restrictions

Of the new cases announced Tuesday, 36 are in the Winnipeg health region, 7 in Southern Health; 3 in Interlake-Eastern; 2 in Prairie Mountain; and 16 in Northern Health.

"Our trusted public health officials, like Dr. Brent Roussin and Dr. Marcia Anderson, review this information to determine how it can be used to ensure all Manitobans are protected, regardless of their background". He also warned there are variants of concern present in the province. "We simply need to maintain these numbers down so we do not ever have to return".

The number of new cases has significantly dropped in recent weeks.

That brings the overall variety of deaths associated to the novel coronavirus to 896.

There are close to 30,000 COVID-19 recoveries in Manitoba.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 3.9 per cent provincially and three per cent in Winnipeg.

There are 184 patients in hospital including 25 in intensive care, both numbers include active cases and those no longer considered infectious. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 526,593 tests completed.

"It is essential to notice that this isn't in regards to the individuals in these communities making unsafe decisions or individuals not following public well being steering".

There have been 50 new COVID-19 instances and two extra deaths introduced on Sunday.

Roussin said that there have been very similar patterns of the disproportional effects of COVID-19 in every jurisdiction.
