Restrictions to ease in NSW from Friday

If all goes well, today will mark 40 days since the last case of community transmission in NSW.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian mentioned greater than 3200 individuals had obtained their first vaccine shot within the first two days of the NSW rollout.

Last year, all states and territories had agreed to cover the cost of their citizens who underwent hotel quarantine in different states during the period when program isolation was being covered by the government.

"And it's very disappointing to see that the Queensland Government would play politics with the people of NSW who have done the right thing and looked after returning Queenslanders".

But Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles is refusing to back down until the federal government caves in to its demands.

The purpose-built facility could quarantine up to 1000 travellers at a time, but needs Federal approval before it can be built. It advises that NSW quarantined 7112 Queenslanders and 4991 people with no address who have been split in cost across all states proportionally.

'Scott Morrison has given the go ahead for NSW to send Queensland taxpayers a $30 million bill for their quarantine program, even though it's 100% a federal responsibility, ' Mr Miles wrote.

The state had issued an invoice to Queensland for $30 million, but yesterday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said her government would not pay up.

Residents will be allowed to have up to 50 people in their home, up from the previous total of 30. Patrons will soon be allowed to stand up and drink at venues.

It came as the state recorded its 38th straight day of no local coronavirus cases.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said restrictions were being eased "with caution".

"NSW is in a very good position but we know that is very volatile", Ms Berejiklian said. "We have to be as vigilant as ever. We have to make sure we do not become complacent, that we stick to the COVID restrictions and rules to make sure that all of us stay protected".

Congregants at places of worship will be allowed to sing if wearing face masks, subject to the 4sqm rule.

NSW quarantined 7,112 arrivals during March and September who listed Queensland as their state of residence, according to an invoice tabled in Queensland parliament.

NSW Well being launched the brand new order on Thursday after the New Zealand authorities reported three further virus instances in Auckland on Wednesday.

"A notice is now in effect specifying Auckland as a hotspot".

"Lots of people have asked me how satisfying it felt to tear up that ridiculous bill from New South Wales for hotel quarantine. Alternatively, they may choose to depart Australia", the NSW Health statement read.
