Dozen new COVID cases reported over weekend

There are 259 active cases across the region with 18 outbreaks on the go.

Henry and Dix also reported two new health-care facility outbreaks at Vancouver General Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital, while several outbreaks have been declared over, including at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and Abbotsford Regional Hospital. 17, 16.7% of Washtenaw County residents have been vaccinated against COVID-19, state data shows.

Last week, the health ministry officials said that the average daily new infections for the last 15 days were oscillating between 9,000 to 12,000 while the deaths were between 78 to 120. "Right now, there are cases in all 67 counties, but not enough that it would not compromise a patient's confidentiality".

The province has received a total of 35,015 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and are holding 8,698 in reserve for second doses and planned clinics.

To the north, officials in Chautauqua County, New York, are hoping the county is beyond the "peak of cases" regarding COVID-19.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health said hospital cases have reduced as people continue to comply with the ongoing Level 5 restrictions. And, especially in the earlier months of the pandemic, Clinton Countians with serious cases often were sent to big-city hospitals outside the county for treatment and a number of them died in another county.

Of today's cases, 66% are under the age of 45, while 354 are women and 325 are men.

As of 8am today, 726 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 156 are in ICU.

9200 doses of the vaccine have been administered by Niagara Public Health.

COVID-19 causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks for most people. The disease, however, can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death, especially for older adults and people with existing health problems.
