508 cases, 6 deaths in final update of the week

There are a total of 4,486 active cases of the virus in B.C., up from 4,348 Thursday. There are 217 people in hospital including 61 in critical or intensive care.

There were 262 active COVID-19 cases still in their isolation period Friday, up from 258 on Thursday, according to Public Health data.

The province is now dealing with 13 active outbreaks in long-term care and six in acute care. The vast majority (52) have been identified through testing as B.1.7.7, which is associated with the United Kingdom.

Seventy-two COVID-19 variants have now been confirmed in B.C. - 50 of which are the United Kingdom variants, 20 the South African variant.

There are 69,970 people considered fully recovered, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

"We are seeing a decline in outbreaks", she said.

Yesterday was a big day, with more than 12,000 people receiving the shot, which is the highest number administered in B.C. a single day so far.

To date, more than 192,000 doses have been dispensed across B.C.

"This has been a long and hard journey for many of us", the doctor said, but it appears preventative measures are working.
