It said Harry's appointment as captain general of the Royal Marines and with other military groups would revert to Queen Elizabeth II before being distributed to other members of the family.

When Harry and Meghan stepped away from full-time royal life in early 2020, it was agreed the situation would be reviewed after a year.

Harry, who served in the British army for a decade and has a close bond with the military, founded the Invictus Games competition for wounded troops.

"While all are saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family", the palace statement said.

Meghan was also handed several honorary roles after she Wednesday Harry in a fairytale ceremony at Windsor Castle in May, 2018.

Harry has chose to stay at the mansion permanently with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and their firstborn, one-year-old Archie.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had an eventful month, the couple won their independent cases in court against British tabloids, announced their second baby news, but the drama never stops, we've just learnt that the couple may be losing their royal roles forever.

Since then, they have launched their own media ventures, and announced earlier this week that they will take part in an interview with Oprah Winfrey - their first sit-down appearance since leaving London.

The couple, who are expecting their second child, are poised to give an "intimate" interview about their lives with the United States talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

Criticizing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, she added, "By now, even the most ardent Royalist - no, actually, let's make that especially the most ardent Royalist - may find themselves deeply irritated by a couple who left the United Kingdom to escape the attention of the ghastly, prying media, but who seem perfectly happy to invade their own privacy when it suits.".

They said they would offer to support the organisations they have represented and that "service is universal".
