31 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health

State infectious disease director Kris Ehresmann on Tuesday said genomic sequencing analysis in Minnesota has detected 40 cases of COVID-19 involving a more infectious variant first found in the United Kingdom.

On the day when the number of new COVID-19 cases continued to climb and Florida neared 2.5 million vaccinations among Sunshine State residents, eight more local deaths were connected to the fast-spreading virus.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 57 additional deaths related to Covid-19.

These figures include the denotification of one death and 12 cases.

Of the cases notified yesterday, 301 cases were in Dublin, 77 in Galway, 37 in Waterford, 36 in Offaly, 32 in Kildare and the remaining 261 cases are spread across all other counties.

As of 8.00am 831 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised - of which 154 are in ICU. 49 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

A total of 69,167 people who tested positive have now recovered, and to date, 176,015 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 26,030 of which are second doses.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health saidL "Although we have made great progress, the situation remains precarious".

In the last seven days, there have been 2,047 positive cases. To date, there are at least 34 cases of the United Kingdom variant in MA. "In particular, people should isolate immediately on experiencing any symptoms and contact their GP".
