First Batch of Pfizer's COVID Vaccine Arrive in Colombia

The government had planned to administer the first dose on Saturday, but could begin vaccinations several days earlier, the health ministry said in a statement.

Japan launched its COVID-19 inoculation drive on Wednesday, administering the Pfizer-BionTech vaccine to Tokyo hospital workers, as Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga attempts to beat the odds and host the Olympics this summer.

"Since the nature of their job is such, we agree that the MPs and state assemblymen, regardless from which party, will be given the vaccine during the first phase so that they can discharge their duties more effectively and safely", he added.

Johnson & Johnson's vaccine, which requires only one shot, has not yet been authorized for emergency use in the U.S.

This phase, officials noted, will also see the vaccination of people above 65 and those whose immunity is weak and is likely to easily be compromised like those with cancer, diabetes, HIV and other serious diseases. He added that around 18 or 19 vaccine candidates are now in different stages of clinical trials.

The country will start administering vaccines from Monday to those aged between 65 and 69 and the clinically vulnerable to Covid-19, with nearly 1.2 million already invited to book their jabs, the state-run National Health Service (NHS) said.

Vardhan emphasised the importance of social distance and appropriate healthcare behaviour amid the pandemic despite falling number of corona cases in the country. Business Standard quoted Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan as saying.

Paul, however, urged people to maintain vigil and keep following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.

India is using a home-grown vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech and the state-run Indian Council of Medical Research, and another licensed from AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

Tennessee will begin registering Tennesseans aged 65 and older and those in Phase 1b of the state's COVID-19 Vaccination Plan COVID-19 for vaccinations on February 22.

Both vaccines have been provided in the nationwide immunisation drive, that was kicked off on January 16.

The statement comes in the backdrop of India vaccinating over 88 lakh people with more than 1.3 lakh jabs given on Tuesday.
