As such, the publisher plans to reveal the game in Spring, with a release pencilled in for the holiday season.

Today, during Electronic Arts' quarterly conference call for investors and analysts, chief executive officer Andrew Wilson and chief operating and financial officer Blake Jorgensen talked about the new Battlefield and EA's pipeline.

On Battlefield, we don't have anything more to share with you at this point other than we believe that it's going to usher in a new generation for Battlefield games and Battlefield fans and we'll be taking - benefiting from the full power of next-gen platforms.

"Our next Battlefield Experience will mark the return to all-out military warfare". Perhaps most interesting is that the game will scale up from Battlefield's trademark 64-player battles. During the Q&A portion, Wilson shared more details on the next Battlefield, short of a reveal. The hope is for the next Battlefield game to pave the way for the series into the future.

A lot is riding on the next Battlefield game.

EA has committed to the fact that the next Battlefield is still on track to release later this year. Reception to Battlefield 5 failed to meet expectations, and regular content updates for Battlefield 5 ended in 2020. During this time, EA has shifted its structure, moving Respawn's Vince Zampella to lead DICE LA.

EA has said that we can expect the game to be revealed in Autumn (March to May).
