Widespread internet outages hit northeast US

Users across the northeast USA reported widespread internet outages Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021.

Users on retail trading platforms Charles Schwab Corp and Robinhood also reported operational problems in the market session for the second day in a row on Tuesday, according to Downdetector.com. The service interruptions were unrelated to a cut fiber in Brooklyn, New York, which caused problems for people in the area. Amazon Web Services' status page showed its service, which provides computing power to large swaths of the Internet, was operating normally. Verizon Fios internet customers reported they were having trouble, but other internet service providers were acting up, as well. That densely populated area includes key US government services as well as major financial companies such as Fidelity Investments.
