Google Assistant to show fitness and health data on smart displays soon

Even if Fitbit's acquisition by Google means little to you but you've been considering one of the company's smartwatches, Best Buy is throwing in a Google Assistant-powered Lenovo smart clock when you purchase a new Fitbit Sense. Apparently, the data will be shown "proactively" on compatible devices such as Google Assistant smart displays. This week, Google Assistant received a new update that adds a new "wellness" category, which seemingly replaces the "Sleep" section that was introduced no later than late past year.

Although Sleep is now the only option available in the Wellness section, the new setting will be able to do a lot more in the future.

However, it is worth remembering that, just like any other functionality configured on collective devices (that is, which is available to other family members), this data may be accessible by third parties, unless Google can somehow limit access. According to the new wellness section's description, Assistant will show health information collected from connected health services. It also has integration for the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can easily manage tasks such as checking the weather, set reminders, and control your smart home devices. If a device isn't listed, you first need to turn on proactive results for that device.

The page notes that the data can now be shown on Google Assistant smart displays such as the Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max and the Lenovo Smart Clock. However, a report by 9to5Google points out that smart displays still can not show data when the option is enabled.
