Like its predecessors, Puzzle Quest 3 will be set in the same world and still involve the matches where every fight involves making matches of three or more items on a board to impair and damage your opponents. You can check out a teaser trailer for the game above.

Publisher 505 Games announced Puzzle Quest 3 following the acquisition of Puzzle Quest and Gems of War developer Infinity Plus Two last week. The development team is now working on Puzzle Quest 3 and expects to have the game out, free-to-play, across multiple platforms later this year.

Since the original Puzzle Quest launched, it has proven to be an incredibly popular franchise, generating over $200 million in revenue and around 32 million players globally across the series. Puzzle Quest 3 once again pushes the genre limits by introducing new and imaginative gameplay mechanics. The game will be available to fans worldwide, across a wide variety of mobile devices and PC later this year, with additional platforms to be announced. 505 Games has offices in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China and Japan.

Puzzle Quest is coming back.

The original Puzzle Quest released in 2007 with a sequel in 2010, and several spin-offs released for mobile after including Marvel Puzzle Quest and Adventure Time Puzzle Quest.

As someone who loved Puzzle Quest (didn't get around to playing Puzzle Quest 2, sadly), I'm all for this. Today, the publisher has announced Puzzle Quest 3, the latest installment in the puzzle-RPG series.
