Horizon Zero Dawn players on Steam prepare for slower patch cycles for the foreseeable future.

Horizon Forbidden West is set to continue the story started by Zero Dawn and is expected to release for PS5 and PS4 before the end of 2021. It's a dual-edged announcement but it's definitely a positive thing for the franchise.

While Guerrilla Games is still hard at work with the upcoming sequel to the 2017 hit game, Horizon Zero Dawn, the developer has been working on releasing patches for the PC version of Zero Dawn that came out previous year. Forbidden West is a direct sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn and will see Aloy travel across a range of new environments and come up against some terrifying new adversaries.

A statement from the team reads: "As our team continues development on our upcoming title Horizon Forbidden West, we are shifting to less frequent updates for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC after this patch".

While updates will be less frequent, community feedback will continue to be monitored so if anything major comes up, the studio will be looking to tackle it.

Let's be clear, it sucks and was poor form that the game released with so many problems, both for its own sake but also as a bad look for future PlayStation ports. Guerilla swiftly released patches for the PC port in an attempt to turn the tides of the negative criticisms.

Horizon Forbidden West is in development for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the latter of which will be built from the ground up to utilize new hardware.
