With Honda discontinuing the CR-V and Civic due to the closure of Greater Noda plant, it definitely needs new models to strengthen its premium portfolio and the HR-V has always been touted to be in the works for India but nothing really came into fruition except for the test mules getting caught on camera quite a few times.

It's not yet clear which powertrains will be offered in markets outside of Europe.

Five mist-covered teaser images released by the Japanese brand provide our first official glimpse at the new SUV's styling and interior, revealing it will retain its predecessor's "hidden" rear door handles, plus the new model's available contrasting black roof and slim LED tail-lights.

New and sportier-looking Honda HR-V teased ahead of February debut

The original HR-V debuted back in 1998, before the nameplate was revived for the second generation in 2013.

According to reports by Motortrend and Motor1, the United States will still get a third-gen HR-V, although it won't be the same as those in other regions. "The development of a successor to the Honda HR-V for the USA market is underway", American Honda Motor said in a statement. The outgoing generations of Fit and HR-V shared a basic platform, and it's possible that will remain the case with the new versions. The HR-V is also known as Vezel in some markets including Japan and is getting a host of new updates in its new avatar. If that's the case, it would make sense to include an HR-V hybrid, as the crossover sits in what is now a growing market segment with no other hybrid options.
