Juddmonte Farms Owner Prince Khalid Bin Abdullah Al Saud Dies

"On behalf of Keeneland, we extend our deepest condolences to Prince Khalid's family and the entire Juddmonte Farms team". He died peacefully on Tuesday 12th January 2021. His colours were carried to victory by over 500 stakes winners, of which he bred over 440, including 118 Group or Grade One winners.

While older readers will be familiar with the brilliant Dancing Brave who had an incredible season in 1986. His contribution to the development of the thoroughbred will have long-lasting effects."The cause of death was not disclosed.Prince Khalid won nine Eclipse Awards during his time in racing, four for top owner and five for top breeder".

Under the guidance of the late Henry Cecil, one of English racing's most successful trainers, the unbeaten Frankel was sent out from Newmarket to win 14 consecutive races before being retired to stud in 2012. She was ridden to all her major triumphs by Frankie Dettori.

Prince Khalid was key figure in the horseracing world for more than 40 years.

His successes were pioneering in the Middle East, with Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum later becoming big names in horse racing out of the United Arab Emirates. Though he was a major presence on the global stage, we at Keeneland treasure the long friendship we enjoyed with Prince Khalid.

Away from horse racing, he ran Mawarid Holding, a Riyadh-based private investment company.
