After Covishield, Covaxin Also Reaches Odisha

The Centre has created the CoWIN database to monitor dosage among healthcare workers who have signed up for vaccination.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the states and union territories have also been advised to increase the number of vaccination session sites that would be operational every day in a progressive manner as the vaccination process stabilises.

Bhubaneswar: A day after the arrival of the first consignment of Covishield, another Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin also reached Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

Serum Institute had started delivery of its vaccines on Tuesday, with 5.65 million shots already shipped to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh. The state has been allotted 20,000 Covaxin doses and another 9.63 lakh Covishield doses. For 38.5 lakh doses the price is Rs 295 each, excluding taxes.

In a response to a question Bhushan said, "At many places in the world more than one vaccine are being administered".

However, the Hyderabad-based company did not provide details on how many doses of the vaccine were transported on Wednesday, and neither revealed its distribution plan for the 5.5 million doses it plans to send to the government by Thursday.

The ministry said that an initial lot of supply of vaccine doses was done and it would be continuously replenished in the weeks to come. "So we urge people to keep following COVID appropriate behaviour", he said.

State immunization officer Dileep Patil on Wednesday said consent during phase 1 vaccinations for health workers is as per central guidelines.
