David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Ted Lieu of California, Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Jerrold Nadler of NY, said Trump threatened "the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power" and "betrayed" trust.

Trump, however, was not removed from office by the Senate, that voted to acquit him 52-48 on charges of abuse of power and 53-47 on obstruction of Congress over charges arising from his dealings with Ukraine.

Cicilline said Monday it has enough support for passage, including some Republicans.

"The seas of discontent were sown across our country and we have reaped the whirlwind", she said.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has, meanwhile, announced that the House of Representatives will consider a resolution later on Monday to urge Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment in order to remove President Trump from office.

Mrs. Pelosi said if Mr. Pence doesn't act within 24 hours after that point, the House will pursue another impeachment against Mr.

Democrats in the House are pushing Pence and the Cabinet to oust Trump, saying he is unfit for office after encouraging a protest march that turned into a mob that ransacked the U.S. Capitol in a deadly siege.

It's understood that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is looking to call on the vice president to aid in the impeachment of Donald Trump.

Murkowski, long exasperated with the president, told the Anchorage Daily News on Friday that Trump simply "needs to get out".

Mr. Cicilline said senators should come back early to hold a trial on impeachment. And once a trial is under way, the Senate couldn't take up other business, including Biden's cabinet nominees and top-priority legislation such as boosting stimulus payments for most Americans. "And maybe we will send the articles some time after that", Representative James Clyburn, a member of House Democratic leadership, said Sunday on CNN.

With a groundswell of anger among Democrats over the storming of the Capitol on January 6 by a mob encouraged by Trump, Pelosi said the House needed to act speedily.

"We are trying to act in an expeditious fashion on making sure that this president is, as soon as possible, removed form the ability to repeat the seditious action he took last Wednesday and the encouragement of people to attack the government", he said. During the call, Trump reportedly asked Raffensperger to "find" more than 11,000 votes, in an alleged attempt to overturn the election results that saw Democrat Joe Biden's win in Georgia. House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy has set a conference call with rank-and-file members for Monday afternoon.

Lawmakers warned of the damage the president could still do before Biden is inaugurated. He spoke at a rally of his supporters on the National Mall as Congress convened to certify the Electoral College vote and cement Biden's win.

President Trump's last days at the White House may be dominated by his second impeachment, according to the Democrat caucus in the House of Representatives. He has plans this week to travel to the U.S. -Mexico border area to promote his wall building on the frontier, and is also said to be preparing at least one more round of pardons.
