CES 2021: TCL introduces new line of 20 Series phones

For 2021, the TCL 20 Series (at least to start) will be comprised of two phones: the TCL 20 5G which is expected to go on sale for under 300 euros, and the even cheaper TCL 20 SE priced at just 150 euros.

TCL has launched a new 5G-ready smartphone called the TCL 20 5G at CES 2020. The announcement continues the company's recently introduced ecosystem, which seeks a balance between premium design and performance - without weighing the consumer's pocket. For one, it will ship with Android 11 instead of Android 10, and packs a slightly larger (5,000mAh) battery than the TCL 20 5G.

The TCL 20 SE features a 6.82-inch display that has a V-notch at the top. The 690 supports low- and midband 5G frequencies but not mmWave. TCL isn't providing information now about U.S. availability or pricing, only that "some" of the five 20-series phones it will announce this year will come to the US. You can charge it with up to 18W thanks to Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+.

On the optics front, there is a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP camera (f/1.8) + an 8MP wide-angle lens (f/2.2) with a 118-degree field of view + a 2MP macro camera. This is paired with Adreno 619L GPU, DDR4x RAM, and UFS 2.1 storage.

Upfront, it has a 13MP or 8MP sensor selfie camera. It was launched in Aurora Green and Buit Black colours.

TCL also announced two new own-brand tablets, the TCL NXTPAPER and the TCL TAB 10s. It is claimed to provide 450 nits brightness and 1500:1 contrast ratio. In power terms, it has 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, with microSD storage expandable up to 256GB. The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 18W basic fast charging. From our experience with other TCL phones, they might pan out to be average at best, but only proper testing will paint the whole picture. There is a dedicated Google Assistant button, too, for some reason. To take further advantage of the large display, the TCL 20 SE also features a Smart Floating Window, which lets users browse the web or reply to messages while watching videos; the feature is triggered by swiping to the right or left corner, and can be adjusted in size or move to anywhere on the display.

For its part, it has a front camera One 8-megapixel sensor has HDR mode and also includes facial recognition function.

Speaking to Mobile News, Streit and TCL senior product manager for the United Kingdom and northern Europe Patrick Power discussed TCL's debut year with its own-brand devices.
