Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will purchase an additional 20 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. I spoke to Healthvana CEO Ramin Bastani about their work with LA County on creating an immunization record that integrates with Apple Wallet to provide patients with timely info and reminders about vaccination appointments, but integrating a ride-booking service or appointment reminder directly in the Uber app that most users already have on their phone anyway could be another very effective way to increase success rates for first and follow-up inoculation visits.

Henry said on Monday that they expected to use up all of the Pfizer vaccine that was on hand that day, but were expecting to receive more in the coming days. "My number one priority is getting vaccine in people's arms, like we just did today, as rapidly as we can", he said after receiving the vaccine.

"Even as we have shown that our mRNA-based vaccine can prevent COVID-19, this has encouraged us to pursue more-ambitious development programs within our prophylactic vaccines modality", he added. "We're going to ensure the vaccine is distributed quickly, equitably, and free of charge to every American".

The 78-year-old President-elect also urged everyone to maintain social distance when outdoors and wear face masks when in a gathering.

Moderna - the company that created one of the two COVID-19 vaccines that were approved late a year ago by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for emergency use - said on Monday that it will pursue the development of three new vaccines: one for the seasonal flu, one for HIV, and one for Nipah virus using mRNA technology, according to a news release. The US company also said the organization has strengthened its team in the past 12 months, finishing 2020 with 1,300 full time employees, a significant jump on the numbers employed by the biotech at the end of 2019, with it comprising 820 staff members back then.
