Amazon launches Prime Video Mobile Edition in India

Amazon Prime Video has introduced a single-user plan meant for Bharti Airtel cellphone users, the streaming giant announced in a press release today. Alongside the Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition plan, users can still also choose from the complete Amazon Prime subscription that allows access to Prime Video on all devices including smart TVs for streaming in up to 4K UHD resolution, alongside other benefits such as access to exclusive shopping deals, faster delivery and ad-free and unlimited music streaming.

Speaking on the collaboration with Airtel, Sameer Batra, Director, Mobile Business Development, Amazon, "We are delighted to have Airtel as our first roll-out partner for Prime Video Mobile Edition". There is also a Rs 299 prepaid recharge plan, which offers unlimited voice calling benefits, 1.5GB data per day and access to Amazon Prime Video. Following the free trial, Airtel users can opt for the Prime Video Mobile Edition recharge plans which go live at 2 pm today. India becomes the first Amazon Prime country in the world to offer customers a mobile-only Prime Video plan. However, Amazon's mobile-first offering will be limited for Airtel users only now. Buoyed by this response, we want to double-down by offering our much-loved entertainment content to an even larger base of Indian customers. Prime Video has collaborated with Airtel to roll out this plan across India and Airtel prepaid customers can enjoy a 30-day free trial of the Prime Video Mobile Edition plan. The base Rs. 89 includes Amazon Prime Video access along with 6GB of data for 28 days.

Amazon today introduced Prime Video Mobile Edition - a mobile-only plan at an wonderful introductory price of ₹89. All the above mentioned recharges are now available in the Airtel Thanks app and also across millions of recharge points throughout India. This collaboration marks the deepening of the strategic association between Amazon and Airtel.

Over the top (OTT) players like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+Hotstar have seen massive growth in the past few years on the back of cheap data tariffs and availability of affordable smartphones. "With the launch of Prime Video Mobile Edition, we look forward to entertaining every Indian with our Exclusive and Original content", said Jay Marine, Vice President, Amazon Prime Video Worldwide. Amazon says that this new mobile-only video plan is being rolled out in India first, and will provide SD quality video streaming on smartphones.
