Exhausted of mockery, Austrian village tweaks its name to Fugging

An Austrian village will ring in the new year with a slightly different name - Fugging - after its rude original became too much for the locals to bear.

As it turns out the locals were growing exhausted of English-speaking tourists stopping off to take photos of the signpost to share on social media.

Some have reportedly even stolen the signposts, leading the local authorities to use theft-resistant concrete when putting up replacements.

"The decision has already been made by the local council", Andrea Holzner, mayor of the Tarsdorf municipality in western Upper Austria, said.

For years, it has been the subject of countless jokes, as well as the constant victim of light-fingered tourists, but the Austrian hamlet of F. has finally had enough.

In 2018 the pornographic website Pornhub said it was offering free premium access to residents of the village and towns with names such as Titz, Germany or Big Beaver, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

"I really don't want to say anything more - we've had enough media frenzy about this in the past", she told regional daily Oberoesterreichische Nachrichten (OOeN).

They finally grew tired of Fucking, its current name which some experts say dates back to the 11th century.

The village's name, which has evolved over the years, is believed to come from a Bavarian nobleman called Focko in the sixth century AD.

"You will be missed, F**king, you will be missed".
