As a pancreatic cancer fighter himself, Trebek knows the cost of this deadly disease all too well. "Today Alex Trebek passed away".

Pancreatic cancer is notoriously hard to detect early because there are few symptoms before it is too late, but jaundice or yellowing of the skin/whites of the eyes is one of them.

With Thursday marking World Pancreatic Cancer Day, the show aired a video message from Trebek stressing the importance of getting tested. Following Trebek's death, his wife posted a message of thanks to fans, writing, "My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity. This is a awful, bad disease".

The Jeopardy Twitter also shared a message about World Pancreatic Cancer Day, including a photo of Trebek with his wife Jean.

"Alex Trebeck passed away today. Many Blessings to all, Jean Trebek".

He offered another update in May, stating he was responding well to the treatment, and that some of the tumors had shrunk in half.

It was recently discovered that the late Jeopardy host Alex Trebek donated 62 acres of land in the Santa Monica Mountains in Nichols Canyon to create the Trebek Open Space in 1988. Did you know that he was a popular game show host and an extra generous defender?

He started hosting Jeopardy! in 1984, and at one point he hosted three shows at the same time, Jeopardy!, Classic Concentration and To Tell the Truth, the first person ever to host three shows at the same time.

Please share this message to inform your friends and loves ones how to look out for the signs of pancreatic cancer in memory of Alex Trebek.
