United are next in action against Southampton on Sunday afternoon and van de Beek could be in line for a start due to Paul Pogba's current injury issues.

There has been some speculation that it was a purchase that United did not really need to make and/or that the 23-year-old was not one of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's transfer targets and was bought without his blessing.

The 23-year-old was deployed at the base of the United midfield behind Bruno Fernandes instead of further forward in the number 10 slot. I think he'll be willing to try to do that.

"Obviously we've been impatient with that but Ole's had a reason for that and today he justified why he's been brought to the club and why he's thought of so highly in European football".

'He's the one player than can play one-touch two-touch and keep it simple. You won't miss out.

'He's the one player that will make other players play well'.

Ferdinand added: 'I was really was pleased with him.

"Yeah, I really, really was [impressed]", Ferdinand told BT Sport when asked about Van de Beek.

The Dutchman was signed for £35 million in the summer but has struggled to break into the United side, having only played 474 minutes of football and having not even started a match in the Premier League.

A move to Turin would see Van de Beek reunite with Matthijs de Ligt and also find Andrea Pirlo, who would probably "value and appreciate" the United player more than Solskjaer, according to the claims.

"It was really good". "Some games I play No.10 and sometimes the coach needs me in the control position".

"I played also before, a lot, in that position and, when I came in my first year in Ajax, I was always playing in the no.6 position". [To win] 4-1 at home I think you can be happy.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice in the first half and Marcus Rashford netted from the spot ahead of half-time before Daniel James netted a goal on the stroke of full-time.
