People mourn Madonna's death mistaking for Maradona

Parts of the non-footballing world prematurely mourned the death of Madonna after mistaking news of Maradona's passing as the death of the queen of pop, reports news service Mothership. Football enthusiasts took to social media to pay glowing tributes to the footballer.

The Mayor of Naples has called for the San Paolo stadium to be named after Diego Maradona following the tragic death of the former Napoli player.

Maradona, regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, forged a strong bond with the Italian club and its supporters during his seven-year spell between 1984 and 1991.

Football legend Diego Maradona died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 60 on Wednesday. He underwent an emergency surgery for subdural haematoma, a condition where blood clots between the brain and its outermost covering.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra, who is now in London, confirmed that she has officially started prepping for her upcoming film Text For You, also featuring actor Sam Heughan and five-time Grammy award victor Celine Dion.

He will be accorded a state funeral after the Argentina president declared three days of official mourning.
