How was the injury sustained and what is his recovery plan?

"The left-back was injured during a training session at USM Finch Farm this week", a brief Everton statement read on Thursday.

That has since been confirmed by the club, who reported that the Frenchman will undergo surgery on the injury on Monday but failed to confirm the extent of his lay off.

How much of a blow is this for Everton?

He created two goals in Sunday's 3-2 win over Fulham.

The injury will come as a huge blow for Lucas Digne on a personal level, as he looks to nail down a starting spot for the French national team for this summer's European Championships.

The defender will not be available when Everton take on Leeds this weekend.

Left-back Digne has made an impressive start to the season, with his link-up with James Rodriguez - who has played predominantly on the right flank for Everton with the freedom to drift inside - a crucial part of Everton's attack.

Which games will he miss?

Digne's absence would represent a major setback as the Toffees host Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in the league in December, plus they have a trip to Leicester City and an Carabao Cup quarter-final at home to Manchester United.

With such a busy fixture schedule coming in the next couple of months, losing the France global is bad news but it could open the door for 20-year-old left-back Niels Nkounkou to try impress during his absence.
