Amazon Web Services outage affects Adobe, Roku, Twilio, Flickr, others

Amazon Web Services began experiencing issues earlier today, which caused issues for sites and services that rely on its cloud infrastructure - as writer Zack Whittaker discovered when he tried to use his Roomba. The problem "has also affected our ability to post updates to the Service Health Dashboard", AWS said.

Also taken offline were vehicle sharing service Getaround, which lets people unlock cars using their phones, photo sharing site Flickr, recruitment website Glassdoor, smart TV company Roku and software giant Adobe.

Amazon said the issue was largely localized to North America, and that it was working on a resolution.

AWS is the largest provider of rented computing power and software services, and its data centers serve as the invisible foundation of much of the internet. That gives failures in its services an immediate visibility that rivals like Microsoft and Alphabet's Google sometimes don't face.
