Manchester City's Caroline Weir and Chelsea's Sophie Ingle became the first ever WSL players to be nominated for Fifa's Puskas Award, while five of the 11 players shortlisted for the Best Women's Player Award herald from England's top division.

Barcelona superstar Messi, who won the accolade a year ago, leads the 11-man list of players up for the individual gong, which will be presented at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony on December 17.

However, the Polish striker can still lay claim to being the best player if he picks up the Federation Internationale de Football Association award, which will be presented at a ceremony on December 17.

Thiago Alcantara, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have all been shortlisted for the Best FIFA Men's Player for 2020.

Meanwhile, Alisson Becker is in the running to retain his Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper crown.

Argentinian coach Marcelo Bielsa, who led Leeds into the English Premier League, headlines a list for the men's coach award, which also features Bayern's Hans-Dieter Flick, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, Sevilla's Julen Lopetegui and Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane. The victor will be announced at the gala in Zurich on 17 December.
