American Music Awards 2020: Taylor Swift, The Weeknd sweep gala

Sunday's American Music Awards, which took place in Los Angeles with a limited audience amid the pandemic, featured performances from artists including Justin Bieber and Billie Eilish, and the show's top prize of Artist of the Year went to Taylor Swift. BTS won Favorite Social Artist. The Korean band also got the Favorite Duo or Group award. And despite performances from artists such as Jason Aldean, Luke Combs, cohosts Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker, and even Justin Bieber, this month's Country Music Awards recorded a new viewership low of 7.1 million.

But she was beaten in the best new artist category by Los Angeles singer Doja Cat, who was also named favourite female soul/R&B artist.

Masked dancers were the order of the night, kicking off with Bieber singing his hits Lonely and Holy before being joined by singer Shawn Mendes for their duet Monster.
