Cloverfield Lane's Dan Trachtenberg Is Directing A New Predator Movie

It's been almost five years since Dan Trachtenberg last stepped in the director's chair for his feature debut, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and now it looks as though he's found his next project in the form of a fifth Predator film at 20th Century Studios, according to Deadline. The plot details have been kept under wraps.

In a week that's already weathered some confusing franchise naming convention news (thanks Scream 5, I mean Scream!), another famous film series with questionable choice in titles is on its way back to the big screen: Predator.

After the odd Shane Black entry The Predator failed to ignite a spark under the franchise back in 2018, it seemed like maybe the films about dreadlocked alien big game hunters were going back into stasis. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the original film was a smash success, grossing almost $100 million at the box office and garnering positive reviews from critics in the years since its initial negative reception.

Directed by Shane Black, The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook, Yvonne Strahovski, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Edward James Olmos.

In his review of the last film, TheWrap's William Bibbiani wrote, "Fans of the "Predator" movies were largely disappointed by the first "Alien vs. Predator" movie, which reduced an exhilarating, intelligent monster movie franchise into jokey matinee nonsense, aimed at Saturday morning audiences". While that might seem like it's a reboot, the fact is that every "Predator" movie has been more or less unique in itself. Aison is repped by ICM Partners and Circle of Confusion.

Per Deadline's report, Trachtenberg's movie will ignore the events of "The Predator", leaving it open for just about anything.
