After being nominated for eight awards, the most of any artist, the XO crooner took over the American Music Awards for a world premiere performance of "In Your Eyes" and "Save Your Tears".

But she was beaten in the best new artist category by Los Angeles singer Doja Cat, who was also named favorite female soul/R&B artist.

Bieber and country duo Dan + Shay won two for their collaboration on "10,000 Hours", while Katy Perry gave her first major performance since giving birth to a baby girl in August. And Megan Thee Stallion - won favorite rap/hip-hop songs for "WAP" with Cardi B - performed "Body" from her recently released debut album "Good News".

The 35-year-old singer looked red hot while presenting the award for Favorite Artist - Soul/R&B to The Weeknd, who appeared on stage with his face covered in bandages. The multi-genre track is the rare song that has reached No. 1 on both the rap and rock charts. "We need to heal", said host Taraji P. Henson as she opened the ceremony.

Becky G, whose parents are Mexican-American, won for best female Latin artist and dedicated her award to immigrant workers. "It's because of my family, my abuelitos, that I stand here today".

Nominees are based on streaming, album and digital sales, radio airplay and social activity, and reflect the time period of September 27, 2019, through September 24, 2020.
