(You can also download it from the Google Play Store.) The feature will basically tell you when a legitimate business-such as a bank, airline company or food delivery service-is calling you, along with the reason why.

The feature arrives at a time when spam calls are on the rise. However, the company points out calls without the verified badge won't necessarily be spam. Because of this, developers will be able to find the reasoning behind different changes that Google made to its mobile operating system. Some don't pick up their phones at all unless it matches someone in their contacts, which can be a problem for legitimate businesses attempting to quickly reach customers.

The support page explains that verification is only supported for approved businesses that pass a verification process.

Often we miss important calls that are from unknown numbers.

The feature is called Verified Calls and it's rolling out on the Phone app, which is usually pre-loaded on many Android smartphones. Google then sends this information to the Android device's Google Phone app. However, the company says it won't be collecting or storing any personally identifiable information after each call is verified.

Again, this isn't going to completely change the way Android works. "We've been piloting Verified Calls for a few months, and the early results indicate that it improves the likelihood of someone answering a call". As for the specs, both the devices will likely share identical specifications.

However, Google's existing Verified SMS system for text messages has been adopted by a number of brands, including 1-800-Flowers, Banco Bradesco, Kayak, Payback and SoFi, for example. Google claims a study in the USA and Brazil found that Verified SMS increased customer trust in brands, and improved metrics like likelihood to purchase, brand satisfaction and likelihood to recommend. But the recent blog written by Product Manager Gal Vered says that the app is coming to other Android devices.

Verified Calls is launching first in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Spain and India, with more countries to follow.

But Call Screen works automatically in English in the USA, and can be used manually in Canada, according to Google's Help documentation.
