To Curb Covid, Delhi Steps Up Contact Tracing, Door-To-Door Surveys

"It is legally not feasible to change the amount of a fine in the absence of a proper government order or notification", said a district official.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain announced that government rates would apply to the normal, non-ICU beds reserved in private hospitals by the Delhi government for COVID-19 patients.

In view of the rising coronavirus cases in the national capital, the Delhi government has mandated wearing of masks in cars as compulsory while travelling in personal or official vehicles even when alone.

Earlier, the Delhi government on Thursday clarified its intention to impose a fine of Rs 2,000 for not wearing masks in public areas and decided to make the rule even stricter, increasing four times the earlier fine.

"Apart from fining people, we also register an FIR in case there is a violation of social distancing rules because of any protest march or a gathering of people larger than the permitted number", he said. Till now it was Rs 500.

Covid-19 has a potential to transmit from human to human when an infected person is in close contact with another. Face masks play an important role in containing its spread.

"There is no harm in wearing a mask inside the auto also". They assured anyone not wearing a mask in the market will be provided free by market associations. "If you're not going to wear a mask don't leave your house", the Health Miniter said.

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government has issued a notification imposing a fine of Rs 2000 for violating certain Covid-19 protocols. "In the past few days, we are getting some positive indicators". Of the total, 4,68,143 patients have recovered and 8,159 have lost their lives due to the virus. With 584 new deaths, the toll mounted to 1,32,162.
