The Lithuanian embassy told the Pentagon of Karoblis's positive test on Thursday, it added.

The meetings were also attended by Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller and the secretaries of the Army, Air Force and Navy, the Pentagon said.

Lithuanian Minister of Defense Raimundas Karoblis visited with several military leaders, including Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller, when he visited the Pentagon on November 13, 2020.

A Pentagon official installed in a top policy job last week has tested positive for the coronavirus, just days after he met with the Lithuanian defense minister, who had also contracted the virus. Bragg, N.C., and then flew out to the US aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford off the coast of Virginia.

It wasn't immediately clear when Tata last briefed other top officials, but he was in a meeting with some of them, including Miller, Deputy Defense Secretary David Norquist and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Mark Milley, as well as others this week.

The report comes just over a month after an outbreak among top Pentagon officials that required several members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to self-isolate after Coast Guard vice commandant Adm. Charles Ray tested positive.

"We have and are continuing to conduct further contact tracing of DoD personnel who have had close contact with the Lithuanian delegation or Mr. Tata, and are taking appropriate precautions in accordance with CDC guidelines", the statement reads.

He is performing the duties of the undersecretary of defense for policy.

The statement only said Tata had become ill. James Anderson, who had been acting undersecretary, resigned last week, shortly after Trump fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper and named Miller the acting Pentagon chief.

However, because standard Covid mitigation guidelines were followed during Miller's meeting with Karoblis and meetings with Tata, Miller "is not quarantining", Hoffman said.
