Biden is the first Democrat to carry Georgia since 1992. We were proud to be joined by our colleagues to represent MI in our nation's capital.

The two Republican legislators - hailing from a state that Mr Biden is projected to win by 154,000 votes - said they had focused during the discussion on Covid-19 assistance, not Mr Trump's efforts to overturn the election results.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger certified Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden as the victor in Georgia after a hand recount of ballots [Dustin Chambers/Reuters] Official figures on the Secretary of State's Office website showed Biden winning the state by 12,670 votes.

'Working as an engineer throughout my life, I live by the motto that numbers don't lie, ' Raffensperger said during a news conference at the state Capitol.

Following a by-hand recount, US President-elect Biden's narrow victory in Georgia was officially certified on Friday by the Republican official who oversaw the audit.

"It's an abuse of office, it's an open attempt to intimidate election officials, it's absolutely appalling", Bob Bauer, a legal adviser to the Biden campaign, told reporters. "I'm having to make sure I'm staying on firm legal footing for the official duties of the governor".

Pressure for Trump to start the formal transition process has mounted, with a few more Republicans voicing doubts over his unsubstantiated claims of fraudulent voting.

Trump not only would need three state legislatures to intervene against vote counts as they stand now, but then also have those actions upheld by Congress and, nearly certainly, the US Supreme Court.

The result in Georgia gave Biden 306 electoral votes, a total that Trump called a "landslide" when states delivered him that number in 2016.

It is a long-shot effort focusing on MI and Pennsylvania for now, but even if both those states flipped to the president he would need to overturn the vote in another state to vault ahead of Biden in the Electoral College.

Yet on Saturday morning, he also continued to claim that fraud would be unearthed in MI.

'Massive voter fraud will be shown!' he wrote, alongside a statement about his meeting with the MI legislature.

'This is true, but much different than reported by the media.

Such an extraordinary event would be unprecedented in modern United States history.

Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield met with Trump at the White House but said they had not seen any evidence that would "change the outcome of the election" in the state.

Their statement also included language saying fraud should be "taken seriously" and be prosecuted if uncovered. Both Shirkey and Chatfield have said that they will honor their state's popular vote and not stray from the process of how electors in MI are selected. They say they got invited to the White House Wednesday night. Earlier this week, Trump fired an official from his own administration who had debunked election misinformation, most of which came from Trump and the White House.

Many of his campaign's lawsuits have been thrown out of court.
