PM Modi, Bhutan PM launch Phase-II of RuPay card

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering will on Friday launch RuPay card Phase-II that will allow Bhutanese card holders to access RuPay network in India. India has recently opened its space sector for private enterprises. "ISRO will be sending Bhutan's satellite next year and work on that is progressing fast", He said. "Like other Indians I have great love and friendship with Bhutan, when I meet you all its like meeting our own", Prime Minister told the Bhutanese audience on the occasion.

He also asserted that India stands solidly with Bhutan in this hard hour of the COVID-19 pandemic, and said meeting the neighbouring country's requirements will always be its top priority.

Speaking at the virtual weekly press briefing, Anurag Srivastava, MEA Spokesperson, said that the implementation of phase-1 of RuPay card enables Indian visitors to Bhutan to access ATMs and point of sale terminals in Bhutan. Prime Minister along with Bhutan Prime Minister had launched the first phase of RuPay card past year during his visit. He asserted that Bhutan's requirements will always be top priority for India.

Bhutanese PM lauded PM Modi for effectively tackling the pandemic India.

Prime Minister Modi said, the phase two launching of RuPay card will boost the ties between the two countries. Phase-II will now allow Bhutanese card holders to access RuPay network in India, the Ministry of External Affairs had said in a statement. "I am sure India will come out much stronger from the pandemic".

Tshering also thanked Modi for promising to provide a vaccine to Bhutan, whenever it would be ready for use.
