Dustin Johnson's historic Masters victory has been a long time coming for the SC native, who has reigned as the world number one golfer for over 100 separate weeks, and previously placed in the top ten of 15 majors.

"Welcome to the club", Bubba Watson, wearing his Green Jacket, told Johnson by the 18th green.

The victory, however, will go a long way to cementing the 36-year-old Johnson's reputation as a pre-eminent player of his generation.

Masters victory is Johnson's third in a five-month period during a shortened 2020 golfing calendar, following on from his wins at the Travelers Championship and the Northern Trust, with the reigning FedExCup champion now a 24-time victor on the PGA Tour.

Johnson began with a four-shot edge in the final round, but got off to a rocky start with back-to-back bogeys on the front nine that briefly dropped his lead to one stroke. They signed quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a record-setting contract extension, one that could pay him a half-billion dollars over the next decade, and have long-term deals in place with Clark, defensive tackle Chris Jones and tight end Travis Kelce.Tying up all that salary cap space makes Veach's success in the draft even more crucial."We're starting to see a lot of production from his draft choices", Hunt said.

The American has become the first world number one to win the tournament since Woods in 2002. Angel Cabrera and Tiger Woods are the only other two to have won both this century. Woods in 2001 and Nolan Henke in 1992 are the others to have found 60 GIR at Augusta National.

Johnson won the Masters on Sunday by posting a score of 20 under par for the tournament, which was a Masters record.
