BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand says Chelsea's squad has the quality required to be fighting for trophies this season despite a far from ideal start. Sometimes we have to judge people on face value.

"I used to hear towards the end of my career about English managers who get jobs in the Premier League and there's a merry-go-round and all this sort of thing".

"I don't think we can talk about turning a corner, we are just trying to do our best every game", he told reporters. Hopefully there are more opportunities for them. I'm not thinking of myself being anywhere near the standard bearer for it because there are great managers and young coaches out there. Our eyes go to that and it becomes new and trendy, and rightfully so with what they achieve. "There are great managers and young coaches out there".

Lampard is now in his second season in charge of the west London outfit and last week became just the second English manager to manage in two Champions League campaigns, with only former Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson having previously achieved the feat.

It would be recalled that the Blues' Champions League opener of the season ended in a goalless draw against Spanish La Liga outfit Sevilla last week and they failed again to find the back of the net in the Premier League clash against Man United as the game also ended in a goalless draw at the Old Trafford. "The last two games we did well to get the clean sheets but that's just two games".

"Coming to Russian Federation to play against a team who are in the Champions League for the first time will not be a comfortable game for us". We're here to win the game and win as a team.

Kurt Zouma, his centre-back partner in those matches, praised the former Paris Saint-Germain man's contribution but believes there is more than enough quality to replace him. "Of course, Thiago has been good since he came but also when he wasn't here we were doing good".
