Rumours of the former Peter Parkers' involvement have been swirling for weeks, given the increasing prominence of multiverse ideas in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It was recently also reported that actor Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role of the sorcerer superhero Doctor Strange in the third part of the revived "Spider-Man" franchise. Today, ET Canada got a comment from a spokesperson from Sony that reads: "Those rumoured castings are not confirmed", They are hasty to note "the statement does not deny the casting buzz", only that it is not definite at this time.

Phase Four of the MCU is set to feature the multiverse heavily, with Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness explicitly mentioning the topic in its title. Well, three. Plus, I'm not happy with what Feige has done with the Holland Spider-Man in the MCU in terms of the character always having to have a mentor daddy-figure and isn't responsible for designing his suit or much of anything. Following recent big casting reveals and growing fan speculations, Murphy's Multiverse brings words that Sony Pictures' executive marketing director in Brazil, Camila Pacheco, has reportedly confirmed that filming has indeed begun on the highly-anticipated third Spider-Man MCU film in New York City.

It's now speculated that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will return as Spider-Man for the upcoming untitled Spider-Man 3 which will feature Tom Holland, Jamie Foxx back as Electro from the Andrew Garfield The Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
